Subject: urgent disability discrimination legislation, please help!

Hello, All,

Here's an urgent message we wanted to pass on from Senator Sara Gelser about a new, proposed bill we absolutely need to get introduced into the legislature special session and passed next week. Please circulate this message to your other communities and organizations as well, and as soon as possible.

People with disabilities are being denied crucial services and support during Coronavirus. Here is a link to Sen. Gelser's post about the ways folks in the ID/DD community are especially being targeted: https://www.facebook.com/notes/sara-gelser/issue-brief-related-to-lc-52/10160220915162501/

Please click this link to connect to Governor Brown’s "state your opinion page": https://www.oregon.gov/gov/Pages/share-your-opinion.aspx

In the drop-down tab "Topic" menu on that page, choose "Coronavirus Covid-19" or "Public Safety" or "Healthcare."

In the message box you can cut and paste the following: Statement in Support of LC 52, Access to Lifesaving Care for Elderly and Disabled Oregonians. I’m asking that LC 52 be introduced into the special session. People with disabilities have always faced barriers to timely, quality health care. That is magnified during the COVID-19 crisis right here in Oregon. In communities across the state, people with disabilities-- particularly intellectual and developmental disabilities-- are being discouraged from seeking care, denied COVID testing, coerced to sign DNR orders, and hastily shuffled into a hospice election rather than treatment. Please help.
