Thank you Jerry, the April minutes look fine to me.

Were you able to find out if NFB is still observing White Cane Day in some fashion? Seems like I recall something about it.

Members attending the meeting were: Kirk & Cherri Wagner, Ryan McBee, Jerry Hathaway, and Carolyn Brock. <>Tom Evans from Hanford, California <> visiting as a guest again. Cherri Wagner made a motion to have the minutes from our March meeting be approved as presented by e-mail with Carolyn Brock seconding the motion and the motion was passed by members attending the meeting. Cherri Wagner gave the Treasurer’s report with a beginning balance of $1, 086.71 and the ending balance of $1,074.71. Jerry Hathaway made a motion to have the Treasurer’s report approved as read with Carolyn seconding the motion and the motion was passed by members attending the meeting. Kirk brought up a discussion of using public transportation to travel around Oregon and visit different sites for enjoyment and members gave their experiences traveling public transportation to visit tourism spots, places of interest, or just traveling around to enjoy Oregon’s different places of interest. Kirk suggested of asking someone from National Association of Blind Athletes to attend our meeting and give a presentation. Kirk played the Presidential release for April. Jerry Hathaway brought that our meeting in May will be on what use to be White Cane week and suggested we talk about why we have White Cane day. Jerry Hathaway will find out if NFB is still celebrating White Cane week in May and let the chapter know. Cherri Wagner had a question about the Blind Teacher program. Cherri Wagner also mention that Kirk & Cherri watched the blind man who broke a world record and that is available on YouTube. There was a small discussion about teaching blind children and blind teachers. Jerry Hathaway remind members that Talking Books & Braille Library has a survey that is available for blind persons to complete. Kirk told us that he will be the NFB representative on the library board and will be attending meetings. Kirk adjourned the meeting.

Every day we raise the expectations of blind people, because low expectations create obstacles between blind people and our dreams. You can live the life you want; blindness is not what holds you back.
