NFB of Oregon Scholarships

The National Federation of the Blind of Oregon (NFB of Oregon) will award up to five scholarships to qualified applicants in 2018.  There may be two scholarships awarded in the amount of $2,000; two in the amount of $3,000; and one in the amount of $5,000.  The Len Hannon Scholarship, (named for a former leader in the Oregon State Legislature and friend of the National Federation of the Blind of Oregon) may be awarded to an individual who has been a winner in the past and continues to make a difference in the lives of blind people. The Len Hannon Scholarship, if awarded, may be for any of the monetary denominations deemed appropriate by the Scholarship Committee.

Each year at its State convention in the fall, the NFB of Oregon awards several scholarships to recognize achievement by blind scholars. All applicants, and supporting documents, for these scholarships must be received not later than June 30, 2019. NFB of Oregon Student Scholarships are funded in part by the Lillian S. Edelstein Trust

The NFB of Oregon College Scholarship application is available. Deadline for the application and all supporting materials is June 30, 2019.

Entrepreneurial Scholarship Fund

The mission of the fund is to advance or aid in the start of ventures owned by blind entrepreneurs, artists, and/or musicians. Reference to “entrepreneur” refers to individuals making a living through self employment in the creation of their own product or service.

Entrepreneurs may submit requests for funding on a rolling basis, but the amount awarded will depend both on the extent to which the entrepreneur satisfies the guidelines of the program as well as the quantity of funds over which the chapter has available for this purpose. The goal of these Entrepreneurial Scholarship Fund is to find recipients who are motivated and diligent in completing all steps to complete their project and/or run their businesses in an effective manner that makes the best use of the funds and expanding benefit for the blind.
